January 2020 Book Review

Secrets of a Charmed Life
One of the goals for 2020 was to read more books. January’s book was Secrets of a Charmed Life. I borrowed it on the Libby app on January 2nd and finished it on January 5th. I think it’s safe to say that I enjoyed the almost 400 page book. I’m also that person who usually reads the last several pages of a book first, however, I did not do that with this book. I was not sure at first but quickly got into the story line and could barely put it down. So here is my review of the book.
Review
I’m not a professional book reviewer but will just tell you my thoughts on the book. I will try not to give any main plot lines away. This is a historical fiction book based on Blitz day which was the day during WWII that London was attached by Germany. I will say that this book has peaked my curiosity in Blitz Day and I plan to do some more research on the subject.
The main characters of the book are Emmy and Julia Downtree. They are sisters who as you can tell from the above description go through Blitz Day. The story follows them from the a little bit before the child evacuations from London to Blitz Day and then the aftermath of the attack. There are several different plot lines including mother and daughter relationships. This is not a romance novel so if that is what you seek, this book is probably not for you. I love the fact that the story tells more than one perspective of what happens. I think this story is something that we can all relate to...regret. I don’t think anyone in life lives without regret. It’s what we do with that regret that matters.
Overall, I would give this 4.8 stars. It is an excellent book. It made me think about my own life and also got me interested in a historical event. I hope you will consider reading it.
