Steps to Adoption: Post Placement

Part 8

Steps to adoption in pink and step 8 in black

Disclaimer: The steps I describe in this series are the steps we took toward adoption. This is our perspective on the steps to adoption.

Now you have been matched, TPR has been signed, you have cleared ICPC and now you are home. This time period is called post placement. Each state is different but there is a time period before the adoption is finalized. So what happens during this time?

During this time, your social worker will visit and write up reports about the baby in your home. The frequency of visits and reports are all determined by your state laws. You may also be asked to write about how you are adjusting to life with the new child.

Once the number of visits and reports are complete, the social worker will submit the report to your attorney to prepare for finalization. This is really just a time to adjust to the child and changes to your family.
